School campuses has long turned to RFID technology in managing the campus’s activities, from staffs to student ID verification and attendance management to library facilities management and cashless e-wallet. Understanding the potential benefits of RFID technology has increases the operational efficiency of the campus environment.
In the campus environment where it is populated by thousands of students and staffs with multiple activities from dawn to midnight, what best mechanism can be used to manage and automate these thousands of daily transactions if not RFID Technology?
This particular campus has been propagating advance technologies and offer courses relating to this field since their inception, thus implementing the campus RFID was seen as potential starting points to promote this technology while gaining much more additional value in return. Knowing the importance of the system’s scalability, the campus management turned to our client to provide them with the right expertise that was required to deploy the system.
For this campus RFID project, smart card was issued to all students and staffs as an ID card for access control in the beginning, and then the usage of the smartcard evolved to include more functions, such as library book management, lab equipment tracking as well as cashless e-wallet.
The cashless e-wallet works in a closed campus environment whereby the ID card is used as a payment method. The ID Card is designed to be a prepaid card whereby value is preloaded into the card before any transaction is allowed.
The preloaded value is then stored in the ID card to act as cash substitute for any micro payment in campuses, such as payment for photocopying as well as meal payment in canteen. All that is required is just one swipe away, no fumbling through the wallet for exact cash, no waiting time to get the payment balance, on top of all these benefits, some of these processes can be automated, accurately capture for fast and efficient transactions.
