PRADOTEC and Intel Announce Intel® Atom™ Processor-based Handheld ePassport Terminal
New ePassport Terminal Set To Fuel Growth For Applications Leveraging Intel® Atom™ Processor Technologies

Kuala Lumpur, August 18, 2011 –
PRADOTEC and Intel Malaysia today announced the HPT600, a new handheld e-Passport terminal powered by the Intel® Atom™ processor technology. The HPT600 is a home-grown mobile e-Passport reading device which fulfils the growing needs of governments for automated, fast, reliable and secure reading and verification of travel and identification documents in a mobile environment.
More than 90 countries, including Malaysia, the United States, France, Australia and the United Kingdom are already issuing e-Passports. With ongoing challenges and increasing demand in border security, the ability to handle ‘on-the-spot’ e-Passport and identity card reading have become critical. There is also a constant need for security control at border crossings, traffic controls and on international trans-border trains or ships. Built on Intel Atom processor technology, PRADOTEC’s HPT600 handheld e-Passport terminal is designed to transform the concept of security where unauthorized individuals can be detected in secured areas — from major ports on land and sea, as well as at country borders and large high-security areas. This provides more effective and secure border controls management. The device can also be used at international conferences where identification via passport is required for security access management.
Powered by the Intel Atom Z510 processor, the PRADOTEC HPT600 handheld e-Passport terminal can efficiently process intensive applications that are required in an e-Passport’s image processing and complex secure encryption computation.
“Innovation is the core of our business at PRADOTEC and we are focused on delivering solutions that serve a global market. Through our collaboration with Intel, we have achieved a significant milestone in developing a robust and powerful handheld e-Passport terminal that meets today’s stringent quality and security requirements,” said Peter Choong, Group CEO of PRADOTEC Corporation.
“Intel is pleased to have contributed to the development of the PRADOTEC HPT600 handheld e-Passport terminal. The HPT600 is one of many new applications powered by Intel Atom processor and the industry can expect to see more embedded technologies from Intel in the near future,” said Prakash Mallya, Country Manager, Sales and Marketing , Intel Malaysia.

Designed as a compact, all-in-one device, the HPT600 has a built-in Machine Readable Zone scanner for Basic Access Control, ISO14443 contactless reader, as well as an optical biometric fingerprint scanner as an option. The device allows passport verification on the spot, and the multiple wireless communications including quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, 802.11b/g wireless LAN and Bluetooth enable data to be transferred back to the main server for verification. The device is fully compliant with the latest International Civil Aviation (ICAO) standards on Machine Readable Zone (MRZ) travel documents. It also supports Basic Access Control (BAC), Extended Access Control (EAC), Active Authentication (AA) and Secure Object Data (SOD) processing as recommended by ICAO and required by many countries.Datuk Badlisham Ghazali, CEO of MDeC, who was present to officiate the launch of the HPT600 said that adopting world leading technology from established industry leaders is crucial for the success of local technopreneurs.“The introduction of the HPT600 is a major breakthrough for PRADOTEC and such achievements underline the potential that local technopreneurs have to develop innovative world class products for the global market,” said Badlisham.
